History
The evolution of Stage Nine began in 1991, with a small train and souvenir shop in the heart of Old Sacramento when TEC Enterprises owner, Troy Carlson, purchased old Sacramento Giftique.
In less than five years, TEC Enterprises had opened two additional stores, also located in Old Sacramento: The Capital City Shirt Company, and The Great Movie and Animation Store. In 1998, Shirt Company closed, and The Great Movie and Animation Store relocated to the corner of Front and K Street, and changed its name to Stage Nine Entertainment Store.
Old Sacramento Giftique and Stage Nine were run very successfully alongside several other store openings and the exhibits at the State Fair, until Giftique was closed for remodeling in 2006. After much construction, Giftique reopened as G. Willikers Toy Emporium, a 3,100 sq. ft. toy store. The remnants of what used to be TEC Enterprises’ first store are located in the new store’s Robot Room, a high-tech section of the store devoted to robots, tin toys, and wind-ups. G. Willikers expanded on Giftique’s stock of LGB and Lionel model trains to include LGB Mountain, a large display of trains running simultaneously on three levels of track. Also incorporated in the Toy Emporium are the Thomas Bedroom—featuring all the latest products from Thomas the Tank Engine—Department 56 display houses, and much, much more.
In 2006, TEC Enterprises expanded once more with the opening of a new franchise location in Old Town Folsom. This store not only features the classic Hollywood merchandise of the original Stage Nine, but also has a built-in theater, where plays and musicals are performed.
