Getting Into the Christmas Spirit

If you have been to Old Sacramento around Christmas time I am sure you have seen the gigantic Christmas tree that towers over Front Street. Here at Stage Nine we are dedicated to decorating for every holiday, especially Christmas. During this season we decorate the surrounding streets and buildings. This includes the garland, lights and of course the Christmas tree in the center of it all. For twenty years now Carlton Christmas Trees has supplied us with our 60 foot plus tree. A tree this large is about 40 years old! Along with the tree we line the streets with over a mile of garland and tens of thousands of lights that can be synchronized to music. It takes many weeks to put all of these decorations up, but our hard working staff makes sure that the streets look their best. No bulb is left unchecked and no garland left un-fluffed.

Most years we produce the Christmas show Theater of Lights, which takes place on the What Cheer House building and the adjacent ones. It retells the story of The Night Before Christmas with a couple of twists in between. The show is very popular, as people come year after year to hear the story be told in a way that has never been done before. They bring their family’s to watch, take photos with Santa and Jack Frost and dance to some Christmas music in the streets afterwards. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we are unable to safely perform the show this year. Yet, this does not mean we will not have decorations up or music being played. Everyone can still come down to Old Sacramento to shop for the holidays while staying safe. As well as get in the holiday spirit by walking the decorated streets that light up the night.
