Stairway to Heaven

Ski resorts and skiing boomed in popularity after World War II. One now-iconic company, Riblet Tramway, built their first chairlift at Mount Hood in Oregon in 1938, later going on to take advantage of skiing’s status as a flourishing business as chairlifts became their bread and butter. Riblet Double Chairs (this one from the 1960s) with their center post in the middle, lack of a safety bar, and vibrant colors defined ski resorts in Washington, Oregon, and California in the 20th century. They were phased out early in the 21st century for more efficient options—leaving them to live out in the heart of nostalgic skiers.
